About Meridian French
Helping Australians
Fall in Love with French
Meridian French was built because great French learning resources — written for Australians, grounded in Australian context, and genuinely useful for real-world goals — were hard to find. So we built one.

Our Story
Meridian French grew out of a simple frustration: the best French learning content online was almost never written with Australian learners in mind. Examples used American or British contexts. Exam guides ignored the specific Australian pathways to French qualifications. Travel content assumed you were flying out of Heathrow.
We set out to change that — building a French language resource that is genuinely relevant to Australians studying French for university, planning a trip to France, pursuing immigration to a francophone country, or simply learning for the love of the language.
At the same time, French is French. Everything on Meridian French is equally useful whether you're in Sydney, London, Toronto, or anywhere else in the world. Our Australian base just means we understand certain pathways — the Alliance Française network, the Australian DELF exam calendar, the French visa process for Australian passport holders — particularly well.
What We Believe
We believe that French is one of the most rewarding second languages an English speaker can learn. The vocabulary overlap is enormous, the grammar is logical once you know it, and the cultural payoff — in literature, food, film, travel, and professional life — is extraordinary. We also believe that the right resource, at the right level, at the right time, makes an enormous difference to whether someone persists with a language or gives up.
That's what Meridian French is built to be: the right resource, for every level, for every goal.
What We Cover
Meridian French is organised around the four things people most commonly need French for:
- Learning the language — from absolute beginner through to advanced, with grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, conversation and structured lessons.
- Travelling — every situation you'll face in France or any francophone country, from the airport to the restaurant to an emergency.
- Passing exams — DELF, DALF, TCF, TEF — the qualifications that open doors to universities, immigration pathways, and professional roles.
- Studying and working — everything you need to study at a French university, work in France, navigate the visa process, write a French CV, and thrive in a francophone professional environment.
Running alongside all of this is our blog — expert articles on every aspect of French language and culture, written for learners at all levels — and our growing library of tools including our French–English dictionary and interactive flashcard system.
Based in Australia
Meridian French is an Australian business. We understand the Australian French learning landscape — the Alliance Française network, the DELF exam calendar, the French consulate processes for Australian applicants, and the specific pathways Australians use to study or work in France. When we write about studying in France or getting a French visa, we're writing with Australian readers in mind first.
Our Values
The principles that guide everything we build at Meridian French.
Practical First
Every piece of content we create is built around genuine utility. If it doesn't help you actually use French better, it doesn't belong here.
Accuracy Matters
We take French grammar, pronunciation and cultural content seriously. We research, we verify, and we update when things change.
Globally Minded
We are proudly Australian but we know that French is a global language. Our content is relevant to learners and travellers everywhere.
Accessible
The core of Meridian French is and will remain free. Great language education should not require a large subscription fee to access.
Always Improving
We are constantly adding content, refining explanations, and building new tools. Meridian French today is better than it was yesterday.
Community Driven
